Rss feeds..Readers..Subscriptions..Newsfeeds..Bloglines....Done!

1 hr ago I knew nothing about RSS feeds and bloglines. I'd heard the terms, but that was it. Following the instructions and tutorials helped - I have now subscribed to a number of feeds, including fellow bloggers blogs, and I've also been able to subscribe to a Flickr Album of photos I quite like.

And I was able to post two of my subscribed feeds to my blog - hooray!

Let the wild rumpus begin!

They're making a movie of 'Where the wild things are'....one of my most fav. books ever.

I loved that book. Here's hoping they do a great job wtih the movie.

Life without internet

So technology is a part of our lives now - it's been happening for a while yes and it's kind of crept into our day to day living without us really noticing it. A couple of Wednesdays ago Telstra accidentally disconnected our phone. Due to this accident we were without internet, and due to our ISP not being Telstra, we were told we'd have to wait 3 to 4 business days for our internet to be reconnected - once Telstra reconnected our phone of course.

And so Telstra reconnected our phone. And of course they reconnected it with a completely different phone number to our proper one. So back on the phone to Telstra to get them to give us our old number back and a few days later they finally did that, and now we are waiting for our ISP to reconnect our internet. Should be back up and working by this Wednesday.

So there's 2 weeks all up that we've had to reexperience a life without internet. And haven't we noticed the difference/impact! With 3 daughters who rely on the net to access information for various school assignmetns and to surf and chat with friends and do their myspace and whatever else it is they do on the net. Plus me who uses it to do my library tech. study - I've been doing my study via internet since starting work at the library and to be without net for 2 wks at the end of semester has really mucked me up bigtime with assignments and keeping on top of it all.

Plus there's the inconvenience of not being able to do my online banking. And check my emails. And I was going to do my tax return online but the net/phone went down the day I intended to do it - which was the day before the last day tax returns could be done (before fines are imposed for late returns and I always leave things like tax returns till the last moment - doh). And I can't check the Bureau of Meteorology to see whether I should be wearing wet weather gear to work that day and I can't check this and I can't check that etc etc etc.

I've also noticed how much time I spend on the net when I have it and one of the pros of not having net is that I have rediscovered television...or should I say, watching television with my daughters...there are some really crap shows on tele but it's kinda fun watching them - in a brainless kind of 'don't have to think too much' way. And I've been reading heaps! I haven't read so much in ages...and it's awesome.

But yeah, internet is so full on in my life and I can't believe just how much I rely on the net for day to day stuff. How did we ever survive without it!
